Xbox 360 Rrod

Many console users who have ever owned an XBOX or XBOX 360 have quite possibly experienced the “RROD” (Red Ring of Death) problem.  This is when you go to turn on your console, and instead of it booting up smoothly, a red ring surrounds the on button, and you find yourself completely unable to use it.

Highly frustrating, but the RROD is very common among XBOX 360 consoles.  Thankfully, there are several different ways to repair your XBOX 360 and get rid of the RROD for good.

1. Send it back to Microsoft

If your console is still under warranty, your best bet is to send it back to Microsoft and have them repair it.  This will be your cheapest option, though it may take two weeks to a month to get your console back.

2. Take it to a console repair shop

There are many different shops that will repair your XBOX 360 for a fee.  Depending on the gravity of the issue, it can cost a small amount ($50-100) or much more ($200+).  A repair shop will replace all parts and fix the problem completely, but this is usually an expensive option.  If you just want advice about how to repair your console, you can try contacting EB Games, Gamestop, or any other major video game retailers.

3. Repair your XBOX 360 yourself

The DIY method is going to be your cheapest bet, but will cost you the most time.  You will need to research repair information for the RROD and your XBOX 360, and preferably find a repair guide.  These guides are usually pretty cheap ($20-50), but you will have to buy any replacement parts yourself.  You can usually find replacement parts pretty cheaply on eBay.

If you do fix your XBOX 360 RROD yourself, there are a few plus sides.  First, it’s the cheapest option.  Second, you’ll learn valuable things about how your console works and be prepared to fix it if it happens again – to your current unit or to a future one.  Lastly, it’s very easy to repair your XBOX 360 if you are willing to invest some time and a little money (though sometimes you don’t need to purchase anything).
