How do I fix an xbox 360 e74 error?

It has one of the four lights lit up on it and gives me an error message I have tried talking to xbox.com but they say it needs repaired

You can’t. The E74 error in NOT the hard drive. It’s a general failure like the red ring of death. The only way to fix it it to send it in to Microsoft. Trying to repair it at home will just make things worse and then MS won’t touch it because it’s open.
